The Serious PC Tune-up for Windows

If your Windows laptop or desktop is 2 to 3 years old, it needs maintenance.  You may not realize that it has accumulated corrupt and unnecessary files, bloatware and is slowing down.  You may have malware.  What if it stops working?  And have you given thought to your data and what software you have on the machine?

Note, the Serious Tune-up will usually involve a “Reset” of the PC’s operating system; software will be reinstalled and your hard disk reformatted.  This should result in virus free, significantly improved performance as well provide better documentation of the computer’s content to help preserve the life of the machine.  (Additional services other than specified may require additional charges.)

Step 1: On-site pickup of your computer

  • Review installed software and antivirus; analyze software licenses or subscription sources. 
  • Document printers and devices. 
  • Review document storage and backup as well as current email/contact/task access and backup.

Step 2: Prepare carefully for the Windows 10 Reset  

  • Analyze current performance of machine. 
  • Create a Restore Point and a Restore USB (included in price) for your future protection again crashes. 
  • Complete comprehensive backup including contacts. 
  • Document installed apps, browsers, anti-virus, and special configurations.

Step 3: Reset the PC’s operating system

  • Perform a Reset that will restore PC to its factory default configuration and reformat the hard drive. 
  • Check that Windows Update is completely current. 
  • Update the BIOS/UEFI (firmware that boots up PC and operating system) if needed and install any helpful free maintenance utilities.
  • Run additional utilities to remove any remaining corrupt operating system files. 
  • For installed hard disk drives (as opposed to a solid state drives), run utilities to check disk file integrity and correct.
  • Clean up unnecessary files to free up performance and space. 
  • Review start-up applications.   
  • Install antivirus. 
  • Custom configure Windows. 

Step 4:  Re-Install

  • Install software, download needed printer/device drivers. 
  • Download desired browsers and customer configure.
  • Restore documents and files.
  • Configure a back-up system.
  • Configure email and contacts, etc. 
  • Open computer and vacuum dust (which helps prevent component destructive overheating).

Step 5:  Return PC

  • Set up computer and connect to network.
  • Connect and test printers.
  • Test functioning and review with end user.
